SUMMARY:Cannabis and Health: What the Science Tells Us
DESCRIPTION:Join us this Friday\, November 14\, at 1:00 PM ET for an informative webinar on what science says about cannabis use and our health. \nThere have been national policy changes related to the use of cannabis for medical purposes\, yet there are many questions from the public and healthcare providers about medical use. The FDA has approved specific cannabis-derived and cannabis-related therapeutics for treating certain medical conditions\, but it has not approved cannabis itself for treating any health conditions. \nThis webinar will examine the scientific evidence on cannabis and health\, while separating evidence-based facts from common myths. Speakers will provide an overview of what is known about cannabis’ medical applications\, limitations in the research\, and its public health implications. Presenters will also address common myths\, highlight what science has yet to establish\, and provide resources for those seeking reliable information. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Commissioner Sullivan Discusses FY 2027 State Budget
DESCRIPTION:Please join Office of Mental Health Commissioner Dr. Ann Sullivan at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday\, Feb. 19\, as she discusses the FY 2027 Executive Budget. This hour-long virtual presentation will detail key points of this spending plan and provide an overview of the investments in the state’s mental health system. \nThe Governor’s FY27 Executive Budget invests in what New Yorkers need while also insulating the state from the fiscal uncertainty coming from the federal government.  This $260 billion spending plan remains committed to economic growth\, while also funding the social safety net and other spending without increasing taxes\, continuing the momentum New York state has experienced and guarding against potential volatility. \nThe Executive Budget also adds funding to continue the critical work to strengthen the continuum of mental health care throughout the state. These investments include expanding teen Mental Health First Aid training for all 10th graders\, adding additional Youth Safe Spaces\, increasing rates at OMH residential programs\, and securing higher wages for mental health workers\, among other initiatives. \nIn addition to discussing the Executive Budget\, Dr. Sullivan will also outline some of the important initiatives already underway at OMH and how these programs are improving access to mental health care for all New Yorkers. \nPlease use this link to join at the time of the presentation. No advanced registration is required.
