We will send you the Zoom link on Friday\, March 22) \nDescription:  New York is now among 37 states who have gained Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) approval for an Substance Use Disorder (SUD) 1115 waiver demonstration\, with five additional states currently seeking approval. The ability and greater flexibilities to provide Medicaid reimbursement for residential and inpatient services is a driving force for state participation. However\, CMS also requires states to evaluate the impact of their demonstrations and to achieve certain milestones. \nOn March 26 from 10-11\, join HMA’s Gina Eckart and Kamala Greene-Genece to learn more about why states\, and specifically New York\, are levering this opportunity\, what NYS Council members need to know about their role in a successful SUD Waiver demonstration\, and how they can capitalize on the opportunity it presents.

Unhoused individuals are especially at risk of overdose deaths. Recent studies show drug overdose accounted for 1 in 4 deaths among people experiencing homelessness. As drug overdose deaths continue to rise\, so does the need for innovative\, early intervention and harm-reducing services. Programs across the country have begun to develop strategies to reduce harm in these at-risk populations. SUMMARY:OMH\, OASAS\, and NYS Education Department Office of Professions Joint Presentation on Professional Scope of Practice FAQs
DESCRIPTION:Since the sunset of the Social Work Exemption in June 2022\, OMH and OASAS have worked to clarify the roles and activities professionals of various disciplines can perform in their settings. OMH and OASAS have collaborated with NYSED Office of Professions to present an overview of the scope of practice and licensing process for the professions most commonly employed in OMH and OASAS programs. This presentation will include information from the Office of Professions on the various professions’ allowable activities\, supervisory requirements for licensure\, exemptions that may be applicable to staff in OMH and OASAS settings\, and tips for navigating the professional licensure or permit process. DESCRIPTION:Medications for Alcohol Use Disorder in Patients with Liver Disease: Leveraging an Underutilized Tool\nJune 26\, 1-2 p.m. ET\n\nRegister\n\n\nMortality due to alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) has risen steadily over the past two decades\, with a sharp increase during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022\, 46% of liver disease deaths among people ages 12 and older involved alcohol.\n\nDespite alcohol’s role in liver disease deaths\, medication treatments for alcohol use disorder (MAUD) are rarely used in patients with ALD\, in part because of stigma\, limited data on effectiveness\, and concerns about safety and further potential damage to the liver. SUMMARY:OMH Statewide Town Hall with Commissioner Ann Sullivan\, M.D.
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, December 18\, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. OMH is conducting a Statewide Town Hall with Commissioner Ann Sullivan\, M.D.\, presenting and taking feedback on the future of New York State’s public mental health system. This year\, the town hall will be held in person at the Empire State Plaza in Albany\, meeting room 7. Additionally\, there is an option to join virtually via a livestream. \nPlease register in advance here: https://totalwebcasting.com/view/?func=RGTR&id=XMKDGWMB6N&oldfunc=VOFF \nThe registration page will ask if you plan to attend in person or via the livestream. Upon submitting your registration\, you will receive a confirmation email from Total Webcasting\, the team helping us with this event. All registrants will receive a link and a unique registration ID to join the livestream/webcast in their confirmation email\, even if you register to attend in person. That way\, if you have a change of plans\, you will still have access to the livestream. \nMeeting location and parking information: The event will be in meeting room 7 at the Empire State Plaza\, 100 S Mall Arterial in Albany. Visitor parking is located beneath the Empire State Plaza and accessed through the I-787 Empire State Plaza exit. \nTestimony\, comments\, and questions: \n\nFor attendees joining in person\, the registration page will ask if you plan to provide testimony during the meeting. If so\, you will be asked to keep speaking time to a maximum of three minutes to allow time for others to speak.\nFor attendees joining virtually\, there will not be an ability to speak out loud through the livestream. However\, there will be an opportunity to submit written testimony\, comments\, or questions. We will do our best to read out loud the written testimony\, comments\, or questions submitted by our virtual attendees\, depending on time constraints. DESCRIPTION:The Office of Advocacy and Peer Support Services is excited to be hosting a unique Regional Advisory Committee meeting as our first RAC of 2025.
