At the same time\, restrictions on prescription opioids strand many patients without adequate care. For policymakers and providers\, ensuring quality patient care and reducing harm requires navigating an evolving landscape of restrictions and best practices. The New York State Department of Health Commissioner’s Grand Round will convene subject-matter experts to discuss New York State’s response to the opioid crisis and harm reduction strategies; the importance of using a health equity lens in the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD); and guidance for treating chronic pain with opioids. \n\nLearning Outcome \nAs a result of this educational activity\, the learner will have increased and enhanced their knowledge and competence on equitably treating chronic pain and/or substance use disorder amidst the opioid landscape in New York State. \n\nObjectives \nBy the end of the webcast\, viewers will be able to: \n\nDescribe trends in overdose deaths in New York.\nDescribe the epidemiology of opioid use disorder and other substance use disorders among Black people.\nIdentify best practices for treating pain using opioids.\nRecognize the ways that pain treatment is inequitable.\n\n
