SUMMARY:Protecting Healthcare Coverage: How New Medicaid Rules Will Impact Formerly Incarcerated Individuals and What You Can Do
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, April 14\, 2026\n\n11am EST Online\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs we enter Second Chance Month\, Legal Action Center (LAC) is bringing advocates and other stakeholders together for a timely\, practical webinar focused on what new Medicaid changes mean for formerly incarcerated individuals and steps that can be taken now to protect healthcare coverage for this high-risk population.\n\nDue to federal policy changes enacted last year\, many formerly incarcerated individuals will face new work reporting requirements beginning in 2027. The administrative burdens and barriers associated with such requirements have been shown to increase people’s risk of losing healthcare coverage. For people recently released from jail/prison—whose rates of serious medical issues are disproportionately higher than the general population—losing Medicaid can interrupt vital treatment\, thwart employment and reentry progress\, and cause deadly destabilization.\n\nLAC’s webinar will cover:\n\n What exactly is changing in Medicaid\, including a clear overview of new work reporting requirements and who they apply to.\n What exemptions from the requirements are available\, particularly for people recently released from incarceration and individuals with substance use disorders and other health needs.\n The critical importance of documentation throughout the enrollment\, reporting\, and exemption processes.\n Steps you can take now to protect Medicaid coverage for vulnerable populations\, including people reentering the community from incarceration.\n\nClick Here to Register
