OMH, OASAS, and NYS Education Department Office of Professions Joint Presentation on Diagnostic Privileges FAQs

Since the sunset of the Social Work Exemption in June 2022, OMH and OASAS have worked to clarify the roles and activities professionals of various disciplines can perform in their settings. OMH and OASAS have collaborated with NYSED Office of Professions to present an overview of diagnostic privileges for licensed mental health counselors (LMHCs), licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) and licensed psychoanalyst employed in OMH and OASAS programs.
This presentation will provide and overview of diagnostic privileges and will focus on OMH and/or OASAS providers only. Private practices and/or other service settings will not be covered in this presentation. OMH and OASAS will review the common questions received from individuals and programs regarding diagnostic privileges, demonstrate how to access the information to answer these questions, and provide scenarios of how this applies to the activities in OMH and/or OASAS settings.
