Buprenorphine Assistance Program (BUPE-AP)

November 14, 2024

DOH and OASAS have launched the Buprenorphine Assistance Program (BUPE-AP) to assist New Yorkers with the cost of buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid use disorder. Buprenorphine (also known as Suboxone) is used to help manage opioid use.

Some examples of those eligible for BUPE-AP include:

  • Clients with coverage with high copays or deductibles
  • Clients with coverage that specifically does not cover buprenorphine
  • Clients with no coverage at all
  • Clients with coverage on their partner’s insurance but fear their partner might react violently if they found out about their opioid use disorder

If you are interested in becoming a BUPE-AP provider, you simply need to:

  1. Enroll in the program by completing a short application.
  2. Participate in a 1-hour virtual staff training.

Once paperwork and training are complete, blank BUPE-AP cards are sent to your site and you can begin enrolling participants.

For more information, please contact bupeap@health.ny.gov. DOH and OASAS are very interested in expanding this program and appreciate your interest.
