Last night, the New York State Senate and Assembly approved the $229 billion State Budget for Fiscal Year 2023-24, after completing negotiations with Governor Kathy Hochul. This afternoon, the Governor signed these budget bills into law, enacting the State’s SFY 23-24 spending plan. This budget agreement comes over one month past the statutory deadline of April 1. Specific to the Health and Mental Hygiene sector, noteworthy investments include:
- $1 billion for mental health
- $500 million for distressed and safety net hospitals
- $1.2 billion in Medicaid rate increases
- $100.7 million to protect reproductive health care
