Following is a notice our colleagues at the New York State Psychiatric Association (NYSPA) just sent to their members regarding yesterday’s announcement from the DEA that it has temporarily extended COVID-19 telehealth flexibilities for prescription of controlled substances. There is a link at the bottom of the first half of the notice that leads to an FAQ document that may be helpful to the prescribers you employ. Hopefully the Psychiatrists you work with have already seen this.
May 4, 2023 Yesterday, the DEA issued a statement announcing that it has submitted a draft Temporary Rule to the federal Office of Management and Budget in connection with a temporary extension of COVID-19 telemedicine flexibilities for prescription of controlled substances. Of course, the text of the Temporary Rule has not yet been released, but this is an excellent step forward in ensuring that patients continue to receive access to necessary medications. The text of the DEA statement is appended below. Following the NYSPA webinar last week on the end of the federal public health emergency, NYSPA has compiled a list of frequently asked questions and answers. In light of the recent announcement from the DEA, will not be posting any FAQs regarding the DEA registration requirement at this time. Once the DEA Temporary Rule is issued, we will provide members with a summary of the rule and any additional information that is made available at that time.
