Brief Mid-Day Update to include Time Sensitive Alert re: Event on Staten Island Tomorrow

March 18, 2025

GO TEAM!  The Assembly Health Committee just advanced our OMIG bill to the Assembly Ways and Means Committee.  We will need VERY robust advocacy to compel some Assembly members and key central staff that support the Ways and Means Committee to support inclusion of the bill language in the final enacted state budget (the Senate included it in their one-house bill however the Assembly was silent on the matter).  Stand by for an Action Alert.

TIME SENSITIVE
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis of Staten Island is one of the House members on the list of Republicans to target in our push to protect Medicaid and other social safety net programs.  Citizen Action of NY has organized a town hall on Staten Island tomorrow (WEDNESDAY) at 6:30pm.  See details below and a flier attached.

Use the attached sheet specific to Malliotakis’ district for tomorrow’s event, and watch for more fact sheets in the days to come. (3 docs attached)

Stop the Cuts: Staten Island Town Hall When: Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 6:30 PM
Where: YMCA Gerard Carter Center, 230 Broad St, Staten Island, NY

Please RSVPhttp://cit.ac/statenisland0319 Light dinner served.

On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, Citizen Action of New York, Staten Island residents, health care professionals, and community advocates will gather for a town hall to discuss the devastating impact of proposed federal budget cuts to health care and housing programs. Representative Nicole Malliotakis recently cast the deciding vote to advance a budget plan that puts Medicaid, Medicare, Child Health Plus, the Essential Plan, and Affordable Care Act coverage at risk. In addition, affordable housing programs like HUD, Section 8, and NYCHA face deep cuts. We call on the Representative to attend the town hall and hear directly from her constituents on how harmful these cuts are.
