COVID Public Health Emergency Extended through Spring 2023

November 11, 2022

CNBC is reporting that the Biden Administration will extend the federal Public Health Emergency (PHE) through the spring of 2023.  The decision comes as public health officials are expecting another COVID surge this winter.

HHS Administrator Becerra has promised to give healthcare providers 60 days notice before lifting the emergency declaration.  HHS would have had to send a notice out by today giving that 60 day notice if it intended to end the Emergency in January, but it did not do so.  As such, the Emergency has been extended, at least through early April.

Each PHE Declaration extension is ‘good’ for 90 days.
