NYS Council High Priority Legislative Update

LEGISLATION:  S7622  – (Brouk) / A 8045 (Bronson)
Extends certain provisions authorizing certain mental health practitioners to engage in diagnosis and the development of assessment-based treatment plans STATUS:  The bill is on the Senate active list to pass tomorrowThe ‘same as’ Assembly version of the bill (A8045) passed on May 21. WHAT IT DOES:  The bill would give certain practitioners more time (until June 2027 rather than until June 24, 2025 as current regulation includes) to obtain the SED Diagnostic Privilege.  In the interim the practitioner would be permitted to continue to diagnose and complete assessment-based treatment plans under appropriate supervision and according to regulations.

NOTE: Scheduled for Senate floor vote tomorrow.  If it passes, it will move to the governor’s desk for final action.  Stand by for more.
