Free Training for our Valued Staff

May 24, 2021

The NYS Council is pleased to announce that we are currently working with the CBC IPA to implement timely training and technical assistance to support our valued direct care and mid-manager staff working in behavioral health agencies across New York.

Several months ago we asked all NYS Council members to tell us if they had recently provided innovative self care and wellness trainings and/or specific benefits for their staff, and if so, would they be interested in replicating these trainings for their peers across New York.  All of the agencies who responded to our request will be featured in an upcoming training series beginning with a two-part webinar on June 23 and June 30 presented by The Mental Health Association of Westchester.  Additional webinars facilitated by NYS Council member agency staff will continue through September 2021 (training calendars to follow).   All NYS Council member agencies facilitating a webinar/s are reimbursed for their time and expertise.

Take a look below!

Many thanks to all NYS Council member agencies participating in this training series, and to CBC for the opportunity to work in partnership to assist our staff!

Reiki  is a Japanese form of alternative medicine called energy healing. Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing through which a “universal energy” is said to be transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in order to encourage emotional or physical healing. It can even be done over zoom, as this webinar will show. In this training, participants will learn benefits of reiki, and how to use it on themselves for healing in these difficult times. This interactive session will guide participants on how to activate and sense energy. Then, there will be a brief guide to build skills on hands-on self-healing focused on energy centers.

Dr. Patricia Deegan is an internationally renown speaker, activist, clinical psychologist, and person in recovery. She will soon be featured in Oprah and Prince Harry’s docuseries on mental health, “The Me You Can’t See.” She also has coined the term “Personal Medicine,” which she defines as “an activity that a person does to obtain wellness, rather than something a person takes (e.g., medication) for wellness.” We can grow our Personal Medicine over time. In this interactive workshop, Dr. Deegan will discuss several common challenges that are faced by the mental health workforce, and how to use self-care (and Personal Medicine) to overcome these challenges.
