During the COVID-19 public health emergency, Medicare beneficiaries have had access to a range of telehealth services, including those for mental health, under temporary flexibilities granted by Congress. But what happens when the emergency ends, as scheduled, on April 19?

Without further action, Medicare coverage of telemental health services will decrease significantly. Beneficiaries will face restrictions, providers will receive lower reimbursement, and coverage of certain services will cease.
