Governor Hochul Appoints Blake G. Washington as NYS Budget Director

July 27, 2023

For lobbyists and advocates in Albany, this appointment is a big deal.  Blake Washington is a great person.  He has been working inside our state government for a long time, and this promotion is well deserved.

We knew that Robert Megna, who came in last year to temporarily take the lead at DoB upon the departure of Robert Mujica last December, was short-lived.  We look forward to working with Blake Washington in the days to come and we wish him much success.

For Immediate Release: 7/27/2023 GOVERNOR KATHY HOCHUL

“During this critical period for our state’s future, I’m looking forward to having Blake Washington on my team as we work to craft another budget that serves the needs of all New Yorkers,” Governor Hochul said. “With years of public service and a deep knowledge of the budget process, Blake is the perfect leader to take the helm at the Division of the Budget. I’m grateful to my friend Bob Megna for his extraordinary work and sage advice this year and look forward to seeing his continued leadership at the Rockefeller Institute of Government.”

Blake G. Washington currently serves as Secretary to the New York State Assembly Ways and Means Committee, where he advises the Speaker and Assemblymembers on all budget and fiscal matters.
