Immigration Resource

February 1, 2025

Last week I shared the document (attached) with everyone as part of a larger mailing covering several topics.

I want to take this opportunity to re-circulate the document now to ensure you’ve seen it.  Pay particular attention to the highlighted section on page 2 in the section discussing what protections still remain for what used to be ‘protected areas’.

‘Note an important caveat to the above protections: within 100 miles of a land or sea border—where two thirds of the US population reside—Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) has special legal authority to board buses, trains, and boats in order to search for individuals without lawful status. Although individuals in these zones retain the right to remain silent, their Fourth Amendment rights are reduced by the federal laws that allow CBP to conduct these searches.’

As a reminder, the meeting we held on Thursday morning with a very knowledgeable (and easy to understand) attorney from Feldesman Leifer, LLP re: Immigration Enforcement to include what protections were revoked with the new Administration, etc.  is now posted in the ‘Archived Events section of our Website at:   www.nyscouncil.org.

There is a link on our front page that takes you to the recording but you will need a UserName and Password to access the ‘Members Only’ section.  Send a note to Cindy Levernois at:  cindy@nyscouncil.org requesting credentials and we will get them to you ASAP.

I know this message is a repeat of earlier information but with everything that happened last week, I thought I would share it again, during a quiet moment.
