In our continuing efforts to improve communication with and between our members, the NYS Council has created a new Listserv group especially for those staff members interested in Scope of Practice issues. We created the list after hosting a meeting last week in which 60 NYS Council member agency staff gathered (with extremely short notice) on a call after the State Education Department (SED) hosted the first in a serious of webinars on this topic.
We have had great success using a Listserv for the Billing, Coding and Reimbursement staff in our member agencies as well as for the members of our Compliance Committee and our Regulatory Affairs Committee. We wanted to open another door to opportunities for dialogue, sharing of information and resources, and asking questions peer-to-peer with the knowledge that NYS Council staff are in these conversations and monitoring them for problems we need to bring to the state.
How to Join
Any staff member from a NYS Council member agency is invited to join these groups. If you are interested in subscribing to one of the lists, please email Cindy Levernois at cindy@nyscouncil.org with your name, organization, email, and which list you would like to join. She will add you to the list and you will then receive a welcome Listserv message from the system with instructions. You may unsubscribe at any time directly from the emails that are generated within each group.
How the Listservs Work
Once an individual is added to a listserv, they can email the entire group by using the following email addresses and the email will be distributed to the entire group. There is no moderator for each of the discussion groups – this is solely for information sharing among our membership.

When an email is sent, the sender will be the person originating the message and it will be addressed to
the entire Listserv Group. An example of what it looks like is below.

Subject: Test
Note: For those agency personnel who previously sent us your name and email address to be added to the new NYS Council Scope of Practice listserv, you should have recently received an automated message from Cindy Levernois who coordinates our lists, welcoming you to the listserv.
