NY Releases 2022 Paid Family Leave Act Rates & contribution Limits

On August 31st, 2021, the New York Department of Financial Services (NY DFS) published the 2022 New York Paid Family Leave (NY PFL) rates and contribution limits. The program provides workers with job-protected, paid leave to bond with a new child, care for a loved one with a serious health condition or to help relieve family pressures when someone is deployed abroad on active military service. 

Here are the highlights of the DFS announcement:

  • The premium rates will remain at the current .511% of PFL covered wages. 
  • The State Average Weekly Wage (NYSAWW) increased earlier this year to $1,594.57 ($82,917.64 annually) which means the
    maximum contribution will be $423.71 per employee. (up from $385.34 in 2021)
  • Benefits have now capped out at 67% of an employees pay to a maximum of 12 weeks of leave and will not change.
