Yesterday we shared information regarding a bill that recently obtained an Assembly sponsor and was moved to an Assembly Committee for further action. We’ve been tracking this legislation and we saw the bill (matches the Senate version) introduced in the Assembly. Generally when this happens in the last days of session we will quickly move to ensure our interests are front and center in the event the bill should gain momentum and move to the floor of the houses for a full vote. And so, when S2451/A10458, a bill that would amend not-for-profit corporation law and require not for profit agencies of a certain size to comply with New York’s Open Meetings Laws as well as Article 6 – the Freedom of Information Act, popped up in our bill tracking surveillance we went to work. Thanks to those of you who shared your immediate feedback, and many thanks to Marcy Savage (our government relations consultant) for spotting the bill!
At this time it appears unlikely the Assembly bill will move out of committee and make its way to the floor for a vote but in Albany we never say never so we have mobilized and we are weighing in with key lawmakers including but not limited to the bill sponsors. We also issued a Memo in Opposition that we are circulating downtown. We will keep you apprised of any new developments as lawmakers continue their work to wrap up the legislative session scheduled to adjourn next week.
