NYS Council on New OMIG Audit Reform Bill

May 18, 2023

I wanted to provide you with an update on our activities to push our new OMIG Audit Reform bill forward in the remaining days of the legislative session.  Note:  The red ink in the Update (below) requests that you take action today in support of the bill.  Please take a moment to generate a few letters to your Assembly and Senate representatives.  It will make a difference!

Update:  NYS Council Leading on Advocacy to Pass New OMIG Audit Reform Bill  A6813/S5239A

Last Thursday NYS Council members met with Linda Clark from Barclay Damon.  Linda is our (NYS Council) OMIG Audit Reform consultant.  Recently Linda worked with a small group of associations (COMPA, CPState, and the Federation of Mental Health Services) to draft a new OMIG Audit Reform bill that we believe responds to the needs of Medicaid providers while addressing some of the concerns expressed to us by the Executive.   As a result of these efforts, and thanks to the bill sponsors who have agreed to champion this effort, we now have a new OMIG Audit Reform bill in both houses: A6813 (Paulin) / S 5239A (Harckham).

Attached, please find useful information prepared for the NYS Council by Linda Clark, that describes the differences between last year’s (vetoed) bill, and the new bill.  Also attached please find a summary of the main elements of the new bill.  Thanks are due to our government relations consultant Marcy Savage for drafting the summary.

In addition to a letter writing campaign, next week the NYS Council and our partners from COMPA, CPState and the Federation will convene a meeting that brings together many of the associations that signed on to the letter we used last year to demonstrate broad support for the previous bill (attached).  The goal of the meeting will be to implement additional advocacy efforts that support the new bill.  The legislative session is scheduled to end on June 8.  We have a great deal of work to do.

Finally, before you leave the office today, please take a moment to generate letters to your Assembly and Senate representatives urging them to support our new OMIG Reform bill.  Here’s a link to the letter generator – it will take just a few minutes!  Thank you! https://cpstate.org/advocacy/?vvsrc=%2fCampaigns%2f99125%2fRespond
