OMIG Reform Bill Moving

May 23, 2022

The NYS Council and COMPA have been working together to push forward a bill, sponsored in the Assembly by Assemblyman Gottfried, and in the Senate by Senator Harckham, that would make significant progress in limiting the powers of the OMIG in instances involving human error.

The Senate previously passed the original bill. The Assembly has a version with certain amendments we have reviewed that is on the agenda for today’s Assembly Health Committee meeting.  Since the Assembly is putting forward an amended version of the bill,  the Senate will need to go back and pass the amended version too.  The two houses are absolutely working in concert to pass the same bill in both chambers.
