Recording of recent Public Health and
Health Planning Council Meeting

March 1, 2022

The NYS Public Health and Health Planning Council met yesterday.  I want to draw your attention to the presentation from State Medicaid Director Brett Friedman who provided an update to  the members of the Council regarding the state’s vision for the future of New York’s healthcare system, as embodied in the draft Waiver.   Elements of the waiver continue to be refined so it makes sense to keep up with periodic updates.

Use the link below to go to the page online where there is a recording of the meeting.  You will see the agenda for the meeting listed below the box that serves as the playback screen.  When you click on the agenda item marked OHIP Waiver Proposal it should advance the recording to the presentation from Brett Friedman who had some interesting things to say about a specific concern that has been raised by certain stakeholders regarding the vision for the role of local Departments of Health, as envisioned in the draft waiver.

The state intends to submit it’s formal application to CMS in August and anticipates a formal response from CMS in January 2023.  As we have stated, OHIP and other DoH leads do a tremendous amount of work and have many conversations with CMS long before the state sends a final application for approval to CMS.  There will also be a 120 day public comment period, presumably between August 2022 and January 2023.
